Umpire Overview

Why umpire?

 Umpiring is a great way to make a contribution to the sport of baseball. We especially encourage our rep and select players to become umpires because they will

  • make some money to buy that beautiful overpriced glove or bat that they think will turn them into the next superstar;
  • become better players as they see the game from a different perspective;
  • develop a better understanding of the rules;
  • gain an greater respect for umpires and how challenging their job is.

Certification

House League

This is a great place to start for young and more inexperienced umpires. Those who would like to umpire in the Mississauga Majors house league system must attend the umpire training course which will be posted on our events calendar. Select and Rep

Umpiring at this level is appropriate for those who have a strong grasp of the rules and do not mind working under the pressure of higher level baseball. Those who would like to umpire in the COBA select or rep system must attend a Baseball Ontario umpiring clinic.

Scheduling

Scheduling is typically done at the umpire meeting at the umpire clinic at the beginning of the year. Umpires should submit their baseball/work schedules as well as diamond preferences to the scheduler at this meeting.

Payment and Reporting

Umpires are to report all games they presided over through the Umpire Reporting Portal to ensure payment.

Incidents that occur on or off the field are to be reported via Umpire Incident Report
